A long-distance parent can stay in touch better by such simple

things as:

 

  • Read stories on a tape and send it to your child with a tape recorder, too, if you can afford it.

  • Send scenic and interesting postcards frequently.

  • Send age-suitable magazine subscriptions to your child.

  • Start a collection (baseball cards or anything else) and send it to your child.

  • Use fax and e-mail to communicate with your child when possible.

  • Send video tapes of events in your life.

  • Send pre-stamped, pre-addressed cards and envelopes to your child for future use.

  • If you budget allows, get an "800" or "888" number for your child's use, or send a pre-paid phone card.

  • Send your child an inexpensive camera so he or she can take pictures and send them to you.
